---- 2009 Fu Dan University International Model United Nations
As the slogan of the 2009 Fu Dan University International Model United Nations (FDUIMUN 2009) goes, this year, as a participant of the FDUIMUN, (I was a delegate of the Press Corps and I represented the journalist from one of the largest news services in the world --- the Reuters), I experienced amazing changes.
Find MUN is a process in which you can find the real you. “I don’t know that very well.” “I’m nervous.” “What if I mess up everything?” Every day we doubt ourselves, but these can just be “used-to-be” as long as you are willing to change. MUN made me realize that I had missed too many chances due to being unconfident. If you see a chance, believe in yourself and take it. Don’t let it go. Here at MUN, when you hear the chair says “Any country who wish to speak, please raise your placard.” You will see firm hands raising the placard and the eagerness to be called can easily be felt. Those delegates aren’t born confident, but they know that on this stage, you are representing a country. This kind of role play makes you feel the responsibility and the necessity to stand out to speak. As long as you try, you’ll feel a new “me” is born. This new person is a braver and more confident you. You will see how amazing you can be.
Learn At MUN, despite those communicating skills, you can learn a lot more about this world. FDUIMUN released many background guides to all different committees, followed by several updates to give you some basic knowledge. For instance, the delegates of SC (UN Security Council) learn about the Somalia pirate issue, while the delegates of UNESCO learn about the intangible cultural heritage. We pay very close attention to those issues and search for information crazily. After that long process, you’ll find that you’ve suddenly gained a lot more knowledge.
Friends Long before FDUIMUN began, all the delegates have already started to contact each other and discuss or exchange ideas. Soon, we were familiar with each other’s names. When we got to the dormitory, we met our roomies with great joy. I heard “oh, I met you on the BBS” “yeah, that’s me!” everywhere. Friendship here is impressing. Roomies sleep together, eat together, and stay up late to work on the papers together… Delegates from the same bloc fight together, face the crises together and work on working papers or draft resolutions together… The chairs and the delegates work together, learn from each other, and have fun together in the last session. This kind of friendship is an important part of MUN, and is always so precious in our memory.
Fun As a tradition, FDUIMUN always have something fun and special for all the participants. This year, we have a big carnival at night. With glow-sticks shining and smiling faces everywhere, the night was lighted by our mood. After the carnival, the majority of the crowd went out of the campus and hang out. Some delegates from other cities went sightseeing, some went to KTV, some were eager to see the Harry Potter film, some went ice-skating… That was a great time for fun.
After all these, FDUIMUN made me see the real me. As long as you try, you can make a difference! So, just be the change!

THIS IS THE MUN!
This summer, hundreds of students were crazy about one thing: the Model United Nations. To get the comprehensive news of the MUN and show a real MUN, I went to the conference held in Fudan University.
Behave like a diplomat I felt amazed when I walked into the hall in the university: all the students were in formal dress. Girls wore high-heeled shoes and boys tied. We can feel the confidence from their different appearances. Though there still left half an hour before the meeting, many delegates sat in front of the computer in the hall and prepared for the meeting. We didn’t hear words like “super star” or “summer vacation” anymore, instead, we heard “motion” and “financial plans”. “Students learn a lot from the MUN and become mature.” A teacher from Beijing told me during the conference break.
The intense meeting When I went into the meeting hall, I could smell the intense atmosphere in the air. Delegates spoke with a serious accent and asked questions in fluent English. Every delegates speaking on the stage was asked many critical questions and they must make sure to reply quickly and accurately. It was just like a fight: you must try you best and survive in the intense situation.
Like any other activities held during our growth, the MUN is a stage to perform ourselves and make improvements. If you are good in English and feel interested in the society, I recommend you to join in it. However, not every student is suitable to take part in the MUN, what we should do is to find the activities we are interested in and make our life colorful.
