现代生活给我们带来很多好处,同时也有“the
other side of a coin”. 但是无论如何,始终要记得去爱、去珍惜你身边的人。
Thoughts
on Modern Life
Modern life has many paradoxes. We have taller buildings,
but shorter tempers; wider roads,
but narrower points of view. We
spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses,
but smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; more knowledge, but less
judgment; more experts, but even
more problems. Modern life brings fast food
and slow digestion; tall men and
short character. There is much in the showroom window and nothing in the
stockroom. We’ve learned to rush, but not
to wait. We’ve learned how to make a
living, but not a life. We’ve done bigger things, but not better things.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to
meet the new neighbor. We’ve built more computers to hold more information, but
had less communication with each other. In the hustle and bustle of modern life,
however, you should always remember to spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever. Remember to say “I love you” to
those whom you love. Don’t hesitate to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because
that is the only treasure you can give with your heart, and it doesn’t cost a
cent. A kiss and a hug will cure hurt when it comes from deep
inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment, for someday that
person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give
time to share the precious thoughts in your mind. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take, but by the moments that take our
breath away. Level: 4 Word count:

stockroom.”的意思是:陈列室的橱窗中有很多东西,而储藏室中则空空如也。这句话是说现代人往往喜欢把许多东西张扬地表现出来,而内涵却很少。 互动练习区 Transform the parts of
